[Revolution] Kane
Revolution format
by Ryan “The GOAT” O’Donnell
BACKLASH (12)
Pre-match (6)
A New Plan x1
Underestimate the Competition x1
<WWE logo> Heavyweight Title Belt x1
<WWE logo> Intercontinental Title Belt x1
Your Chance in the Limelight x2
Strategy Notes:
Your pre-match set-up will be dependent on whether you have higher or lower Superstar Value than your opponent.
If you have higher Superstar Value, you should play the <WWE logo> Heavyweight Title Belt and both copies of Your Chance in the Limelight. You will want to choose to have your opponent discard 2 cards with your belt, so they have discarded a total of 4 cards from their starting hand.
If you have lower Superstar Value, play the <WWE logo> Intercontinental Title Belt. If you can boost yourself above your opponent’s Superstar Value with this belt, you should do so and then play the <WWE logo> Heavyweight Title Belt and one copy of Your Chance in the Limelight. If not, draw two cards for your <WWE logo> Intercontinental Title Belt and play Underestimate the Competition. If you feel your starting hand is not very good, then play A New Plan, otherwise you should pass on your third pre-match card.
If you find yourself facing Batista (the only other Revolution superstar with 5 Superstar Value), utilize you Title Belts to get higher Superstar Value, then nuke his hand with Your Chance in the Limelight.
Mid-match (6)
Before this Gets Out of Hand x1
I Can Do Anything I Want x1
I’m Baaaaack! x1
Keep Your Eyes Open or It's Game Over x1
Take It and Like It x2
Strategy Notes:
Your Mid-match consists of 4 Reversals to stave off your opponent’s offense and 2 copies of Take It and Like It. Like most of the arsenal, these will help you add Momentum to your maneuvers, which is your main strategy.
ARSENAL (60)
Antics (13)
Double Your Value - Double Your Fun x3
Get Ready to Burn in Hell x1
Look Under the Ring x3
Nothing Can Stop Me x1
Shock the World x2
Throw Into the Ropes x3
Strategy Notes:
You will be attempting to use the Momentum trait to its fullest with these Antics. With Nothing Can Stop Me, Shock the World, and Throw Into the Ropes, you have many tools at your disposal to give your maneuvers Momentum.
Additionally, there are several Antics here that grant you Fortitude. Get Ready to Burn in Hell, Nothing Can Stop Me, and Double Your Value – Double Your Fun should help you easily gain early Fortitude to begin playing your Trademark maneuvers and bridge into your higher Fortitude Reversals and Assaults.
Look Under the Ring is a great all-around card. There are really no cards in this deck to allow you to shuffle maneuvers back into your arsenal, so you will want to get back your scary Trademark maneuvers and more effective Antics. Look Under the Ring fits the bill.
Throw Into the Ropes will also double as a handy reversal to those pesky Follow-up maneuvers from Revolution 2: Extreme.
Maneuvers (23)
Big Boot x3
Chokeslam Straight to Hell x1
Discus Punch x2
Gut Punch x3
Hellfire Clothesline x1
Kane's Big Boot x1
Kane's Sidewalk Slam x1
Kick x3
Running Elbow x3
Superkick x2
Workin' on the Knee x3 leg
Strategy Notes:
As you can clearly see, this deck is mainly going to be Assault based. Building upon our previous Momentum theme, we have Superkick and Kane’s Big Boot. This maneuver set contains maneuvers with every target except arm, so it is possible for Superkick to have its own built-in Momentum.
Discus Punch will aide you in retrieving Kane’s superstar specific Antics and Reversal, as well as some more of his Trademark maneuvers.
Since Kane is able to retrieve maneuvers from your Ringside whenever your opponent successfully plays a maneuver, I choose to pack fewer non-F:0 maneuvers.
When given the option, play your non-hybrid F:0 maneuvers first, and save your hybrid maneuvers to reverse your opponent’s maneuvers.
Reversals (24)
Body Slam x2
Chicken Wing x1
Full Nelson x2
Inertia x2
Instinctive Reflexes x1
Inverted Atomic Drop x1
I Won't Be Beat Tonight x3
Not What We Came to See x2
Roll Through x1
That's Extremely Un-Original x2
Try to Get Away x2
Vengeance is Mine x1
Welcome to My World x2
Why Don't You Kiss My A$%? x2
Strategy Notes:
Like any good reversal set, the intent of these reversals is to give you defense against as many different card types as possible while effectively counteracting them all. Sounds a lot easier than it is.
If your opponent is playing Holds against you, he is probably in trouble, as your F:0 maneuvers are all Assaults and your hybrid ones reverse Holds. If your opponent is playing Assaults, Throws, or Extremes, you have a good compliment of Reversals to specifically reverse each of those types. You also have some general Mean and Colossal Reversals, which can be used on any type of maneuver. Of course, when given the option, you should reverse your opponent’s maneuver with the specific Reversals and hold onto the general Reversals for their Trademark maneuver(s), assuming that they are not Sabu, Sandman, CM Punk, or Kevin Thorn (all of whom do not have Trademark maneuvers).
Any Final Strategy Notes / Insights:
This deck is a very aggressive build. The intent is to quickly hit your opponent with multiple maneuvers in one or two turns to build up into Kane’s Trademark maneuvers. Kane is the only superstar in the Revolution format who can easily retrieve his Trademark maneuvers from his Ringside, so you will likely get to play them all against your opponent during the match.
In addition, you will be attempting to give many maneuvers Momentum to prevent your opponent from reversing them. While you run the risk of letting your opponent play Inertia against you, it is certainly better than being hit with Smacked with the Sledgehammer.
