Undertaker
by Justin “The Devil” Brook
Revolution Format

What better deck for “The Devil” to have than the Undertaker himself? In this design, I wanted to take full advantage of the second part of the Undertaker’s ability.

Undertaker (Superstar Card)
Starting Hand Size: 6
Superstar Value: 7
Superstar Ability:
Your opponent reverses a card from his hand: put up to 1 non-Unique non-Hybrid non-Extreme Maneuver from your Ringside into your hand.
During your opponent’s turn, if you have less Fortitude than him: your Fortitude is considered the same as his

As soon as I saw this spoiled, I thought to myself that this ability has to be able to be abused in some way. Then, the corner and faction cards were spoiled and I immediately thought of some nasty stuff to do with this. I decided that with this ability, playing Triple H Is In My Corner, and using some of the factions, that Undertaker could be as dominating in Revolution as he is real life.

BACKLASH (12)

Pre-match (6)

Intercontinental Title Belt x1
The New Breed x1
Tomorrow’s WWE Legends x1
Triple H Is In My Corner x1
Underestimate the Competition x1
You’re Drafted x1

Typically, your normal Pre-match will consist of the following cards in this exact order:
1. Triple H Is In My Corner
2. You’re Drafted
3. Tomorrow’s WWE Legends
4. The New Breed

Triple H has so many great cards, so including his cards in this deck is just disgusting. Plus I can get him into my corner before any other superstar out there right now except for Stone Cold. The Game Spinebuster and Smacked With the Sledgehammer are phenomenal reversals with the Undertaker’s ability. Hmm, you have 20 fort.? You want to play a mean or colossal? OK, take a sledgehammer for 20. You want to play an assault or a throw? Sure, take a spine buster for 8. You always want to play You’re Drafted because you have 2 factions to play right after it and the bonuses you will receive are very good. Tomorrow’s WWE Legends is practically a free slot as a result, and The New Breed helps with all the means you are going to be throwing at the opponent and you get the benefit of being an Extremist! That will come in handy later in this article. Plus, each faction has some very nice cards to play which will be talked about later. The other 2 Pre-match cards are mainly just to be there and look pretty. You will most likely never use them.

Mid-match (6)

Before This Gets Out Of Hand x1
Caution: You’re Entering the O-Zone x1
I’m Not Afraid Anymore x1
Layla: WWE Diva to the Core x2
Talk Is Cheap x1

Ah, now onto the Mid-match. Talk is Cheap and Before This Gets Out of Hand are your normal backlash deck reversals. Caution: You’re Entering the O-Zone is a very nice 8 fortitude colossal reversal which lets you get rid of a card in your opponent’s ring. I’m Not Afraid Anymore is in there because most of the time your opponent will have a decent amount of fortitude which helps your ability, and there might be a damaging Superstar Specific reversal in his hand that you don’t want to get hit with. Trust me, taking 20 damage or so from a reversal is a very bad thing. Finally, there are two copies of Layla: WWE Diva to the Core. These cards are there because this deck contains only 7 cores maneuvers and a boat load of means and colossals for which you can discard to fulfill the requirement. In case something goes drastically wrong, you don’t want to be stuck with no 0 fortitude cores to play.

ARSENAL (60)

Superstar-Specifics (12)

Behold The King x1
Deadman’s Big Boot x1
Demon of Death Valley’s Chokeslam x1
Old School! x1
Red Devil’s Snake Eyes x1
Smacked With the Sledgehammer x1
The Cerebral Sleeper x1
The End x1
The Game Spinebuster x1
The Lord of Darkness x1
The Phenom’s Streak x1
Tombstone Piledriver x1

Wow, that’s a lot of Superstar Specifics. 8 for the Undertaker and 4 of Triple H’s. Every single card of the Deadman’s is very good in one way or another. There are a bunch of nasty means and colossals that will help later in the game, but his two key cards are The Lord of Darkness and The End.

198/206 (STARTER DECK – FOIL – Undertaker + Deadman)
The End
Reversal: Assault, Hold, Throw, or Extreme
Requirement: Fewer Cards in Hand and First Card This Turn
Draw up to 4 cards.
Unique
F:3 D:3

204/206 (ULTRA RARE – FOIL – Undertaker + Deadman)
The Lord of Darkness
Antic
Overturn up to 6 cards: put up to the same number of cards from your Ringside into your hand.
Unique
F:6 D:6

Which one is nastier? 3 fortitude should never be difficult especially with the Undertaker’s ability, so having an omni-reversal that lets you draw 4 cards is one hell of a good card. The requirements aren’t even hard to meet either. On the other hand, The Lord of Darkness is a game breaking card. If you get this card off, you have a good chance of pulling a victory out. Getting up to 6 cards into your hand off of one card is unbelievable in a game where hand manipulation and power dominates. You can’t forget about Triple H’s cards either. As I said earlier, The Game Spinebuster and Smacked with the Sledgehammer are great reversals with your ability. The Cerebral Sleeper lets you get rid of 2 cards in your opponent’s ring, which is never a bad thing. Finally, Behold the King acts as a double-edged sword. Your opponent overturns 7 cards and you can pick up 3 cards from your ringside. Once again, more hand manipulation for you.

Antics (2)

Live Fast-Fight Hard x1
Prepare for the POUNCE x1

Here are two antics that are for your factions. Live Fast-Fight Hard could possibly let you play a colossal on your first turn and could receive momentum if your superstar value is higher than your opponents’. All that for 0 fortitude? Yep, that’s right. Prepare for the POUNCE makes your opponent’s maneuvers easier to reverse by making them Extremes as well as their printed type. If you can get the added bonus off of these cards, great. If not, don’t worry about it.

Maneuvers (20)

A New Breed Unleashed x1
Discus Punch x3
Homicidal Lunge x3
Knee Lift x3
Running Clothesline x3
Superkick x3
The Elijah Experience x1
Toe Smash x3

Now this is an interesting move set to say the least. Only 7 zero fortitude cores? I must be nuts right? Maybe a little bit. Anyways, you should always be able to get fortitude because if your opponent has fortitude then you have some damaging reversals for him, unless he likes the Aggression rule for some strange reason. The 7 cores are all Extremes which are still very hard to reverse to open the game with in my opinion. A New Breed Unleashed is always good to have in your opening hand. You’re an Extremist remember, so you can play this card with no problems. Knee Lift is in the deck because discard is always good in Revolution and the Discus Punches are there to pick up some of your many unique cards from your ringside. The more unique cards you successfully play, the more pain your opponent will be in. The Elijah Experience is a cheap costing extreme mean. It lets you pick up 2 of your Assaults and/or Extremes in your ringside as well. I think I like that. The Superkicks and Running Clotheslines are there to pummel your opponent with. Remember the first part of the Undertaker’s ability? The one that I haven’t mentioned yet? Well here is where it comes into play.

Guess what card you will be picking up when he reverses a card from his hand? That’s right, your assault means and colossal are coming back to daddy. You reverse my Discus Punch? Alright, I’ll just pick up another mean or colossal to hit you with next turn. Wash, rinse, and repeat for added annoyance. Um, yah, that’s a sick one in my books.

Maneuver-Reversal Hybrids (3)

Only One Solution: Revolution x3

Playing 3 copies of Only One Solution: Revolution is necessary in all Revolution decks right now.

Reversals (23)

Here’s A Lesson Plan x1
I Won’t be Beat Tonight x3
Inertia x3
Not What We Came to See x2
Off Your Mark x1
Overexposure x3
That’s Extremely Un-Original x2
The Second Solution x3
Try to Get Away x2
Welcome to My World x3

Now this is not a typical everyday reversal set. Being able to have the same fortitude as your opponent on his turn lets you play reversals other superstars wouldn’t be able to play during times when you are struggling. As a result, you can pack The Second Solution without having to worry about the restriction it will create for you. Drawing cards is a good thing too.

67/206
The Second Solution
Reversal: printed 1D—7D Assault, Hold, or Throw
Pack this card: you cannot pack F:0 Maneuver / Reversal Hybrids.
Draw up to 2 cards.
F:0 D:2

Also, another great reversal is Overexposure because it can be played from your hand because you are in The New Breed! If your opponent has 11 fortitude, he better watch out for these. Also included are 3 of the card titled Welcome to my World which will let you search for one of your many Unique cards in your arsenal. The Lord of Darkness or The End anybody??? Bwahahahaha. As long as your opponent keeps hitting you, you will never run out of applicable reversals in this deck.

In summarization, this deck can do many different things. It can sit back, let you get fortitude and then hit you with some high damaging reversals. It can go aggro with the Extreme cores that you are packing and by hitting you with reversals like The Second Solution and Not What We Came to See which will lead into devastating means and colossals. Or it can mix it up and do both. This deck is never out of a match, so just because something doesn’t go well in the beginning, don’t get down on yourself. The Deadman will rise again and always has a chance to prevail due to your ability.
